About The Position

The Childwatch Lead is responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children while their families enjoy the YMCA. This role involves leading a team, designing and implementing activities, ensuring safety, and providing excellent customer service. The Childwatch Lead will bring energy, creativity, and enthusiasm to the program, making it a fun and exciting place for children to play, learn, and make friends. The position also supports YMCA membership promotion, special events, and fundraising goals.

Requirements

  • 21 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • At least 2 years of experience working with children ages 0-12
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience
  • Experience working with diverse populations and the ability to build positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate activities
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required within 30 days of hire
  • Employee Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse Prevention training required prior to the start of employment
  • Ability to actively participate in and lead children's activities while providing safe supervision
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, move, and participate in activities with children
  • Ability to maintain adequate vision, hearing, speech, and movement abilities to safely supervise children
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for all aspects of the Childwatch program.
  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, develop, evaluate, and schedule Childwatch staff.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the team, fostering a positive and supportive workplace.
  • Cover open Childwatch shifts as needed.
  • Build strong, friendly, and professional relationships with children, parents, caregivers, and YMCA staff.
  • Act as a positive ambassador for the YMCA and the Childwatch program.
  • Design, plan, and implement creative, age-appropriate activities and programming.
  • Keep children engaged with activities that promote physical, intellectual, social, cultural, and emotional development.
  • Lead special programs such as Parent's Night Out, family movie nights, family events, and other youth & family activities.
  • Maintain constant visual supervision of children.
  • Create and maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
  • Follow all YMCA child care policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Respond appropriately to concerns, accidents, incidents, and unusual situations.
  • Communicate concerns or unresolved issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Complete required documentation, including attendance, sign-in/sign-out, health and wellness information, and accident/incident reports.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to children and families.
  • Assist with YMCA membership promotion and special events.
  • Participate in family specialty programming, staff meetings, and trainings.
  • Support the YMCA's Strong Communities Campaign and departmental fundraising goals.
  • Inform families about other YMCA programs and opportunities.
  • Keep Childwatch rooms, equipment, and supplies clean, safe, organized, and ready for use.
  • Complete daily and weekly cleaning responsibilities.
  • Ensure equipment and program spaces are properly maintained.
  • Carry out additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Senior Director of Youth & Family.
