The Child Watch Attendant supervises children in the YMCA Child Watch Program. This position is responsible for providing safe and enjoyable childcare for members and their children. Child Watch Attendants are required to know and follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures. Must attend staff meetings and training programs, as required. Maintain visual and auditory supervision at all times. Must be responsible for the safety and well-being of each child under their supervision and maintain a creative and playful atmosphere for all participants. They plan and supervise the activities of children and maintain clean and safe areas.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children.
  • Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds.
  • Must have visual acuity to observe all children.
  • Must have the critical skill of being able to relate to parents, school staff and children and have a positive, creative attitude.
  • Must be able to work as a team member.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents.
  • Must understand and be committed to working with diverse population and to YMCA character development.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test.
  • Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting.
  • Accepts and demonstrates the Y’s values.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises children in the YMCA Child Watch Program.
  • Provides safe and enjoyable childcare for members and their children.
  • Knows and follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Attends staff meetings and training programs, as required.
  • Maintains visual and auditory supervision at all times.
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of each child under their supervision.
  • Maintains a creative and playful atmosphere for all participants.
  • Plans and supervises the activities of children.
  • Maintains clean and safe areas.
  • Opens and closes Child Watch room as required.
  • Is the last person to leave the room and locks door before leaving the building.
  • Checks first aid kit and OSHA equipment, and knows its location.
  • Keeps certifications current and up to date.
  • Takes full charge in case of accident, and follows appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Properly fills out accident reports when necessary.
  • Promptly fills out and turns in payroll sheets to supervisor.
  • Enforces safety regulations (i.e. keep children out of cabinets and drawers, etc.).
  • Reports all unsafe and unsatisfactory conditions to supervisor.
  • Cleans toys and equipment daily.
  • Changes sheets on crib daily.
  • Changes diapers on children often.
  • Has parents sign-in and sign-out, and collects appropriate number of coupons.
  • Continually plays and interacts with the children while they are in your care.
  • Is courteous and greets the parents/guardians who come into Child Watch.
  • Wears name tags at all times.
  • Enforces no food/snacks policy.
  • Greets all children with a smile and by name.
  • Provides ongoing feedback on the child’s progress and development.
  • Is proactive and responsive to parents needs when concerns occur with their child.
  • Provides a safe and clean environment for all kids.
  • Is knowledgeable about the other service area programs and offerings.
  • Builds lasting positive relationships with parents and their kids.
