About The Position

Denver Human Services (DHS) is seeking a highly skilled Child Support Technician II for the Modifications Team. This role involves performing technical and legal work to modify child support obligations through administrative or judicial processes. The Child Support Technician II will work closely with City Attorneys and the judicial system to adjust medical and financial support orders, ensuring they accurately reflect parents' current abilities to support their children. The position focuses on promoting parental responsibility and ensuring children receive support from both parents, even when living in separate households. The child support program is a significant income-support program for families, helping to cover essential needs like shelter, food, childcare, transportation, and school clothes. The team utilizes family-centered services and innovative strategies to improve the reliability of child support payments, requiring professionals with passion, empathy, and poise.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Four (4) years of experience performing child support initiation, enforcement, collections, investigations, case management or a related field.
  • Strong organization and time management skills, including experience with managing multiple high priority tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience engaging customers from diverse backgrounds with a solution-oriented approach primarily through phone and email.
  • Proven experience utilizing multiple computer applications simultaneously to support a client.
  • Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

Nice To Haves

  • Administrative Process (APA) Certified is a plus
  • Experience with ACSES, CBMS and CSeTools
  • Driver’s license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical and legal work by following an administrative or judicial process to provide services to clients involving the modification of child support obligations.
  • Work closely with City Attorneys and the judicial system to modify medical and financial support orders to ensure that they are "right-sized" and accurately reflect the parent's current ability to financially support their children.
  • Collect and analyze financial affidavits and information, tax returns, pay stubs, and any additional relevant information needed for case documentation to determine if a significant change in income or circumstance has occurred to initiate the modification process.
  • Calculate updated support obligations using state-mandated guidelines and tables to ensure fair financial and medical support.
  • Draft legal documents pertinent to cases including but not limited to modifications, motions, docket preparation, special entry of appearance, and notice of hearings.
  • Prepare cases for court hearings by organizing case files to include relevant documents for attorneys and testifies when needed at hearings.
  • Communicate with obligors (payers) and obligees (recipients) to explain child support modification services, processes, and requirements, as well as explaining mediation/negotiation of pay amounts and plans, stipulations, and settlements.
  • Maintain accurate records in state databases, monitor compliance, and collaborate with the legal team for ongoing actions that may be needed.
  • Participate in community outreach events and/or work in alternate city locations dependent on the business need.
