About The Position

This position is for a Child Protective Services Casework Supervisor within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in Rockland, Maine. The role involves planning, coordinating, directing, and monitoring the activities of caseworkers and support staff in child protection, adoption, and substitute care. The supervisor will assess and assign casework loads, review and provide guidance on cases and service delivery, and work with staff and peers to resolve critical situations. The position is responsible for ensuring quality service standards, conferring with workers on casework issues, evaluating work performance, coordinating with external agencies and community resources, recommending program changes, authorizing service provision and expenditures, negotiating contracts, analyzing cases for compliance with laws and standards, and participating in court hearings. The role also includes directing and participating in after-hours coverage.

Requirements

• Eight (8) years of education and/or professional experience in social work.
• At least two (2) years experience as a fully licensed social worker (LSW).
• A Master’s degree is preferred.
• Recent experience in professional child welfare casework.
• A thorough knowledge of and recent experience working with MACWIS/Katahdin.
• Four years’ experience as a fully-licensed social worker.
• An LMSW or LCSW automatically meets the two (2) years fully licensed social worker experience requirement.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, direct, and monitor the activities of caseworkers and support staff in child protection, adoption, and substitute care.
• Assess and assign casework loads.
• Review, monitor, and provide guidance to staff concerning cases and service delivery.
• Research and work with staff and peers to resolve critical and crisis situations.
• Ensure established quality service standards are maintained.
• Confer with and counsel workers regarding casework to assist with difficult cases and caseload problems.
• Review and compare work performance and/or products of staff with established standards to assess employee productivity levels and training needs.
• Connect with other agencies and community resources to coordinate services, promote necessary community resources, and monitor cooperative agreements.
• Evaluate and recommend program-wide changes and establish unit procedures and goals to upgrade the quality and continuity of services.
• Coordinate activities between unit and service providers to effectively deliver social services to agency clients.
• Authorize service provision and client/caseworker expenditures.
• Negotiate various contracts and agreements with service providers and others to ensure appropriate services are provided.
• Analyze and review cases to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, standards, and requirements, and initiate and participate in court hearings.
• Direct, coordinate, and/or participate in after-hours coverage to ensure appropriate staffing.
