About The Position

Empower the Team That Protects Our Future! Are you an experienced caseworker ready to lead the next generation of advocates? We’re looking for a visionary and supportive Child Protective Service Supervisor to guide a team of dedicated workers in the mission of family preservation and child safety. In this vital leadership role, you will move beyond individual casework to oversee clinical decisions, mentor staff, and ensure that every child in your unit receives the highest standard of protection and care. These positions supervise a unit providing child protective services. They oversee the investigation, assessment, and intervention of child abuse, neglect, and exploitation cases. These positions also conduct their own casework. They train, coach, and evaluate staff to ensure high-quality casework and adherence to agency policies, laws, and best practices. They serve as liaisons between staff and agency leadership and coordinate with community partners, such as law enforcement, courts, schools, and medical professionals. Work requires high-level decision-making with substantial impact on child safety and family outcomes. These positions require use of a personal vehicle for travel, participation in on-call rotation after business hours, and may necessitate overtime. Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • In-depth expertise in clinical social work, forensic interviewing, and the advanced application of state and federal child welfare statutes.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship skills, with the ability to manage high-pressure situations and support staff through secondary traumatic stress.
  • Exceptional decision-making capabilities, specifically in determining safety thresholds and permanent placement outcomes.
  • A commitment to administrative excellence, ensuring the unit performance meets or exceeds all regulatory and quality assurance standards.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience performing social services, probation and enforcement services, or community support and welfare services for adult and child protection.
  • Valid WV driver’s license.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Maintain detailed case records and extensive documentation.
  • Successful completion of a background check is required for employment.
  • Applicants hired into this classification must obtain licensure as a social worker from the West Virginia Board of Social Work within a timeframe established by the appointing agency.

Nice To Haves

  • Internal Applicants Only: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in Child or Adult Protective Services, Centralized Intake, Child Welfare, or Youth Services may substitute for the required experience.
