About The Position

This position is responsible to the Supervisors of Neighbourhood Programs to support the efficient operation of the Homeward Bound program and well-being of children. The incumbent of this position performs tasks of a confidential nature, including information regarding children and participants. The position requires good oral and written communication skills in English.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of child development and learning needs of children 4 – 12 years.
  • Ability to work with children and parents who have experienced violence or homelessness, and some understanding of this population’s unique issues.
  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

  • First Aid Certification is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with delivering after-school activities which facilitate educational and life skills development.
  • Provide spontaneous age-appropriate activities for children in the program.
  • Help prepare and cook healthy snacks.
  • Assist in overseeing the safety of the children for both off-site trips and in the onsite space.
  • Work in accordance with all relevant legislation, by-laws, program, and organizational policies.
