This position's responsibilities are to set up for and to serve meals, and to clean up serving and kitchen areas. The Child Nutrition Helper may perform various tasks including assisting in food preparation, setting up serving carts and warming ovens, filling condiment containers, serving meals to students and staff, cleaning serving and meal areas, assisting in placing food in serving carts and ovens, cleaning carts, tables, and other food serving areas, and cleaning refrigerators, storage areas, grills, deep fryers, and shelves. Other functions may include moving into the serving cook position, assisting in ordering food and supplies, collecting and laundering kitchen linen, performing cashier duties, serving on district committees, and performing related duties. The position requires adherence to strict meal deadlines, timing tasks for completion, and anticipating quantities for cost efficiency and proper storage. The role involves exposure to heat from ovens, burners, and steam trays, potential exposure to infectious diseases, and hazards from cutting equipment. It requires standing for prolonged periods, moving heavy supplies (up to 50 pounds) and full pans of food, and exposure to noise from kitchen equipment and students. Protective clothing is required, and assistance with cleaning meal spills may be necessary. A pre-placement physical and testing is required.
