The Child Life Specialist fosters psycho-social, emotional, and physical development of children and adolescents through the provision of developmentally appropriate preparation for medical procedures, post-procedural education, and therapeutic play in order to maintain normalized living patterns and minimize stress and anxiety. This role involves conferring with multidisciplinary team members to promote continuity of care and develop discharge goals. The specialist also incorporates family centered care into daily interventions, working with children from various hospital units, including children of adult patients, siblings of pediatric patients, and outpatient services.
