About The Position

The Child Life Specialist assists pediatric patients, families, and the health care team in identifying the psychosocial and developmental factors that impact the healthcare experience for patients and family members. Will assess the emotional, developmental, educational, recreational, and diversionary needs of the patient and sibling. Provides developmental stimulation, therapeutic play and activities, procedural preparation, age-appropriate education, and family support to help reduce stress, increase adaptive coping, and enhance developmental growth. Administers individual and/or group therapeutic activities.

Requirements

  • Previous and/or current experience working with infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, or closely related field.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 600 hours of a child life clinical internship under the direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist.
  • Application for certification to be completed within one year of hire.
  • Ability to positively interact with children and families.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete duties in a timely and organized manner.
  • Ability to work in collaboration and in positive manner with others.
  • Ability to perform duties independently of other Child Life Specialists.
  • Certified Child Life Specialist, must gain certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or CHOC BLS Prep Course for RQI completed within 90 days of hire or transfer into position.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of professional experience as a Child Life Specialist.
  • Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, or closely related field.
  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish.
