About The Position
For 50 years, LifePath has been providing a variety of community and residential services to individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout 7 counties in Pennsylvania. LifePath's programs and services are guided by the principle of everyday lives, an environment of respect and dignity and opportunities to make decisions and choices about one's own life. The Child Life Specialist is responsible for overall programming at the facility which includes the assessment of assigned individuals, development and implementation of individualized written program plans, and revisions to plans at least quarterly. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in in child life, child development, early childhood education, therapeutic recreation, psychology, or special education
- Prior experience working with children with developmental disabilities
- At least 18 years of age
- Valid Driver's license with 3-year clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
Responsibilities
- Orient and assist in ongoing trainings of Nursing Assistant staff in implementation of positioning, adaptive equipment, programs, goals and protocols, including documentation.
- Complete therapeutic screenings and initial evaluation on admissions and yearly. Develop program plans with goals
- Be responsive to consumer, family and employee concerns.
- Write functional, individual programs with appropriate goals and protocols including behavioral interventions. Review and update plans as needed and inform staff of changes.
- Attend all meetings, including IEPs, ISPs, monthly monitoring, Human Rights, and others as directed by Nursing Associate Director/Clinical Director.
- Complete assessments and documentation of individual progress, response to goals and activities.
- Function as a member of the interdisciplinary team, communicating and coordinating the development and psychosocial care of each individual.
- Plan and assure that individuals regularly participate in community activities. Devise a monthly activity schedule, including plan outings and post in common areas.
- Assist in planning, organizing and implementing holiday and special events both inside and outside of facility.
- Maintain the Assistive Technology Library.
- Beautify children’s rooms to create a home-like, appropriate decorated room, where therapeutic equipment is accessible, visually soothing/stimulating and educationally supportive environment.
- Maintain positive working relationship with families, case managers, schools, co-workers and other personnel. Encourage family involvement with planning of programs, goals for individuals.
- Coordinate developmental, therapeutic and adaptive play/recreation/music experience.
- Learn and implement behavior modification plans for individuals as needed.
- Disseminate annual plans to team members.
- Develop a working relationship with DME providers, PT, OT and speech therapists.
- Assist in obtaining and maintaining adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, and orthopedic modalities. Monitor for correct fit and maintenance of equipment.
- Perform Nursing Assistant duties as needed.
- Design and present/coordinate at least 4 in service trainings to staff each year. Ensure follow up with staff to retrain if necessary.
