Child Life Specialist - Full Time
About The Position
The Child Life Department helps children understand and cope with medical experiences by focusing on developmental needs and providing education, play, and emotional support for patients and families. Child Life Specialists cover various areas throughout the hospital and collaborate with hospital staff as part of the medical team. Services include illness, hospital, and treatment education; surgery and procedure preparation and support; therapeutic and recreational play activities; coordinating special events, entertainment, and activities; and grief and bereavement support. This position is accountable for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating care plans to meet the psychosocial, behavioral, recreational, and educational needs of hospitalized and/or outpatient children. The incumbent serves a defined patient population based on children's ages and developmental needs for a designated period of time.
Requirements
- Four-year college degree in Child Life or a related field of study.
- CCLS certification through the Child Life Certification Commission within 12 months of hire or transfer into the position, or completion of a 600-hour internship before starting.
- Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily; reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
