Child Intervention Practitioner (Edmonton and Area)

This includes providing services and resources to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect and effectively address harm that has placed them in need of intervention. Mentoring and support services are available to youth transitioning into healthy, productive adults. The ministry also invests in community-based groups that support prevention and early intervention services such as Family Resource Networks, youth emergency shelters as well as programs that raise awareness and help respond to family violence, sexual violence, and abuse.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Social Work with 1 year of related experience.
- Master of Social Work (no experience required).
- Related university degree (BA Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Bachelor of Indigenous Studies) and 2 years related experience.
- Related diploma (Addictions/Counselling, Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Criminal Justice) and 3 years related experience.
- Related certificate and 4 years related experience.
- Strong understanding of Signs of Safety and the Child Intervention Practice Framework principles.
- Deep knowledge of community resources and strategies to support diverse populations.
- Independence, sound professional judgment, and the ability to build strong relationships.
- Thrive in fast-paced environments, excel at decision-making, and have exceptional time management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Vehicle liability insurance.
- Valid registration and access to a vehicle.
- Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) registration, as required under the Health Professions Act for candidates with a Social Work diploma, degree, or masters.
Nice To Haves
- At least one year experience (current or prior) within Child Intervention Services, Children and Family Services.
- Currently delegated under CYFEA or have previously held delegation as a Child Intervention Practitioner in Alberta.
- Experience working for a Delegated First Nation Agency (DFNA).
- Completed a practicum with Children and Family Services.
Responsibilities
- Assess safety and risk: Gather and analyze information to determine immediate concerns and develop safety plans with families and supports.
- Plan and collaborate: Facilitate family meetings, identify goals, and connect families to community resources and cultural supports.
- Manage cases: Engage children and youth in decision-making, monitor progress, and adjust plans to increase safety and positive outcomes.
- Legal and crisis response: Prepare court documents, attend hearings, and respond to urgent situations, including participation in on-call rotations.
- Support lifelong connections: Promote family, cultural, and spiritual ties, implement cultural plans, and ensure educational success.
- Complete documentation: Maintain accurate records in case management systems and ensure compliance with Child Intervention standards and CYFEA policies.
