About The Position

The Child Development Specialist provides individual and family services to strengthen parenting skills and support the developmental potential of young children. Services include developmental screening and assessment, intervention, parent education, and coaching families to support cognitive, personal-social, language, and motor development. Services are delivered in children’s natural environments, such as their homes or childcare settings, and may also be provided remotely. The specialist works as part of an interdisciplinary team to monitor service effectiveness and support children and families. This temporary, part-time position is based in Purcell, Oklahoma, and is scheduled Monday through Friday for up to 19 hours per week. The hourly rate is up to $26.44 for Level I, $28.36 for Level II, or $31.25 for Level III, based on education and experience. The level depends on the role’s complexity, responsibility, and required expertise. Office presence is an essential function. Job-related travel is required; occasional in-state overnight and weekend travel may be necessary.

Requirements

Master’s degree in child development, early childhood education, early childhood special education, developmental psychology, or family relations/child development; alternatively, a master’s degree in special education with at least 18 graduate, postgraduate, or upper-level (300 or above) hours in specified child development, family, assessment, or early childhood curriculum areas.
Knowledge of typical and atypical child development from birth through adolescence; childcare and guidance skills and techniques; early childhood education or special education methods and curricula; and community health and welfare resources for children and parents.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with professional and non-professional groups, encourage participation in child development and early intervention programs, and teach child development and parenting skills.
For Level II: two years of post-master’s experience in child development, early childhood education, or early childhood special education.
For Level III: three years of post-master’s experience in child development, early childhood education, or early childhood special education.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship and are subject to a background check.
Applicants must provide documentation of required education, certification, or licensure at the time of application.
Applicants must be willing to perform job-related travel.
For Level III, knowledge and ability to assess children’s development and provide educational programs to parents; knowledge of parent education and early childhood education principles, practices, and ethics; training and instructional techniques; and materials and curricula used in relevant programs. Ability to establish effective working relationships, communicate orally and in writing, and exercise initiative and independent judgment.

Nice To Haves

For Level II and III, Certified Child and Parenting Specialist (CCPS) certification through the Oklahoma Family Resource Coalition (OFRC); if not held when hired, it must be completed within one year of employment.
Level III knowledge of parent education and early childhood education principles, practices, and ethics; training and instructional techniques; and materials and curricula used in relevant programs.

Responsibilities

Provide early intervention services in the child and family’s natural environment, such as a home, childcare setting, or park.
Educate parents and professionals about child development using materials and curricula developed for this purpose.
Participate in family interviews.
Conduct intakes, including client interviews, and assessments, and make appropriate service recommendations.
Work with families and caregivers to identify goals, develop strategies, and create effective family intervention service plans.
Participate in developing and implementing Individualized Family Service Plans according to state and federal guidelines.
Serve on an interdisciplinary team to monitor the effectiveness of child health and development services.
Teach parents ways to enhance their child’s developmental potential.
Maintain confidential service records, including progress notes and evaluation reports, in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Assist in selecting, preparing, and distributing materials on child development.
Provide individuals and families with prevention information related to parenting and child development.
Refer individuals and families to relevant services that can help them achieve goals and enhance well-being.
Collaborate with community agencies and plan and conduct community-wide efforts to promote the health, development, and behavioral well-being of young children and families.
Initiate and implement steps needed to support smooth transitions from the early intervention program.
Be present in the office as an essential function of the job.
Support the agency’s mission, values, standards, policies, procedures, confidentiality standards, and ethical code; work effectively with and assist peers.
Perform other duties as assigned.
