About The Position

Participates as lead instructor in planning, supervising and implementing the classroom program in compliance with state requirements, contract standards, and applicable policies and procedures. This role involves developing weekly lesson plans with age-level developmentally appropriate activities, leading instruction, and providing guidance to community college students. The specialist is responsible for maintaining classroom discipline, organization, and cleanliness, communicating with parents, and attending staff meetings and training. The position also involves participation in institutional effectiveness processes, serving on committees, and supporting college values and goals.

  • Must complete all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by Texas Southmost College.

  • Must promote positive morale and teamwork within the department and provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty and community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop weekly lesson plans that involve age-level developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Lead in the instruction of children through the development and implementation of lesson plans and other activities.
  • Provide demonstrations of age-appropriate development and behavior of children.
  • Provide guidance to community college students regarding Center rules and regulations related to Child Development and Early Childhood programs.
  • Assist with daily assignments to students and the evaluation of classroom activities and performance.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence regarding classroom operations and activities.
  • Maintain and record training hours and attendance records.
  • Organize and participate in games, read stories, and teach simple painting, drawing, handwork, songs, and similar activities.
  • Help children with personal care, such as removing garments, developing habits of caring for own clothing, and picking up toys and books.
  • Direct activities in eating, resting, and toileting.
  • Maintain discipline, physical organization, and cleanliness in the classroom.
  • Communicate informally with parents on children’s progress and behavior.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings.
  • Plan and implement staff training as requested.
  • Attend the workplace regularly as per the defined work schedule and report to work punctually.
  • Complete duties and responsibilities in compliance with college standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Complete all required training and professional development sessions.
  • Participate in the development of outcomes, monitor assessment of those outcomes, and assist in the development of plans of action for improvement.
  • Participate in the process for systematic review and evaluation per the institutional effectiveness model.
  • Serve on committees as appropriate and as appointed by supervisor.
  • Support the values and institutional goals as defined in the College’s Strategic Plan.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
