About The Position

This position involves planning and executing early childhood education and development activities. The Child Care Teacher will teach children using a variety of educational materials and programs, collaborate with parents to foster understanding and follow-up actions beneficial to the children, and direct caregivers and volunteers to ensure activities are carried out as planned. The role requires ensuring that program plans and activities address the observed needs of individual children and youth, implementing activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children, and incorporating special instructions from parents regarding dietary, physical, or other needs. The teacher will also prepare and implement program options for children and youth with special requirements. Key responsibilities include demonstrating, instructing, leading, and facilitating planned and spontaneous program activities, role-modeling developmentally appropriate practices and classroom management, promoting safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices, preparing and maintaining indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials, inventorying equipment, and establishing a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions. The role also involves assisting with snacks or meals and interacting with children using approved child guidance techniques. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Two year degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development or related field of study, which can include Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Youth Development, Psychology, Social Work, Home Economics with an emphasis in Human Development, or other degrees as appropriate to include the Child Development Associate (CDA) and two years of experience.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete Tier 1 background investigation, to include state checks, upon hiring and renew every 5 years.
  • Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds and over, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis. Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
  • Ability to satisfactorily pass the Civilian Medical Clearance Examination that is performed at preplacement and then every two years for every childcare position type.

Nice To Haves

  • A BA/BS degree in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education or other degree appropriate to the position from an accredited college or Associate of Arts (AA) degree and at least 2 years’ experience in child care or preschool environment.

  • Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies.
  • Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with other children, youth, and adults.
  • Helps arrange for and/or serve appropriate snacks or meals where applicable.
  • Interacts with children using approved child guidance development techniques.
