About The Position

LC State invites applications for the position of Child Care Provider (2 openings). Salary and rank based on experience and qualifications: $17.90 per hour.

Requirements

  • Some knowledge of the normal development of children from six weeks to preschool age.
  • Some knowledge of methods used to teach preschool children basic skills.
  • Experience reading and understanding written instructions.
  • At least two years of experience as a teacher in an early childhood setting.
  • Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Oral Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing that there is a problem
  • Service Orientation - Actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Social Perceptiveness - Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Active listening.

Nice To Haves

  • National competency-based credential as a Certified Childcare Professional or Child Development.
  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in early childhood education.
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in early childhood education, school-age care, child development, social work, nursing, sociology, psychology, human development and family studies, or another child-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  • Plans and prepares developmentally appropriate curriculum activities, including art, music, and physical activities.
  • Implements activity plans.
  • Monitors, observes, and interacts with children.
  • Cares for the physical needs of children, including feeding, diapering, toileting, dressing, and administering medications.
  • Communicates with parents orally and in writing concerning the needs, progress, and behavior of children.
  • Maintains attendance, meal, and activity records.
  • Assures a safe environment.
  • Designs bulletin boards and other displays.
  • Assists with food preparation, service, and cleanup.
  • Be a backup when the Director is absent.
  • Additional duties include direct and indirect activities to support recruitment and retention of students.
