About The Position

The part-time Child Care Licensing Specialist II's primary role is to administer and enforce municipal and state child care licensing requirements to help protect the health, safety, and well-being of children receiving care within the Municipality of Anchorage. This position reports to the Child Care Licensing Program Manager, who exercises general supervision over licensing activities. Functions include, but are not limited to, conducting inspections and investigations of licensed and unlicensed child care facilities; reviewing applications for licensure, renewals, and facility modifications; monitoring compliance with applicable laws and regulations; providing technical assistance and education to child care providers; preparing licensing, inspection, and enforcement documentation; responding to complaints; and collaborating with municipal departments, state agencies, and community partners to support safe and compliant child care operations, as well as participating in departmental emergency response activities as assigned. Other duties include maintaining licensing records, entering and updating information in licensing databases, responding to public inquiries, and performing other program-related duties as assigned. This part-time position performs the same duties and responsibilities as the full-time Child Care Licensing Specialist II; however, workload assignments and caseload expectations are adjusted proportionately based on authorized part-time hours. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and five ( 5 ) years of experience in childcare licensing, administration of a childcare program, quasi-institutional facilities or closely related field and six ( 6 ) college credits in early childhood development, child development, child psychology, or geriatric care.
OR Associate’s degree in Social Work, Child Development, Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Gerontology, Elder Care Management or related discipline which includes six ( 6 ) college credits in early childhood development, child development, child psychology, or geriatric care and three ( 3 ) years of experience in childcare licensing, administration of a childcare program, quasi-institutional facilities or closely related field.
OR Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Child Development, Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Gerontology, Elder Care Management or related discipline which includes six ( 6 ) college credits in early childhood development, child development, child psychology, or geriatric care and one ( 1 ) year of experience in childcare licensing, administration of a childcare program, quasi-institutional facilities or closely related field.
A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with a safe driving record at time of hire.
A current TB screening test at time of hire.
A MOA Peace Officer Certification must be obtained within one (1) year of hire.
Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) at time of hire.
