The Housekeeper is accountable to the Manager, and will function as a team member responsible for overseeing the function of the kitchen, ensuring that meals and snacks are prepared and delivered to the program rooms in a timely fashion. The Housekeeper will also be responsible for duties such as laundry, light cleaning duties, sanitization of program areas and materials, and garbage removal. The Housekeeper may also provide enhanced support to the Educators during busy transition times and the lunch-sleep hour allowing Educators the time to focus on the children. This is a unionized position.

Requirements

  • Fluent in English, oral and written
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation
  • Basic knowledge of child development and experience working with children
  • High level of interpersonal and written skills
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and responsible
  • Requires standing and walking for up to 8 hours
  • Ability to frequently move around, bend, reach, and lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations
  • Applicants must have a current Food Handler Certificate.
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and delivering meals and snacks to the program rooms in a timely fashion.
  • Ensuring dishes and garbage are tidied up and stored according to Public Health Guidelines.
  • Completing laundry tasks for each program room, as required.
  • Ensuring that staff have the necessary items for lunch distribution.
  • Keeping inventory of food items for replenishing.
  • Doing weekly grocery shopping for programs
  • Carrying out housekeeping duties, as required.
  • Ensuring that appropriate substitute meals and snacks are provided for children with food allergies and/or dietary restrictions.
