About The Position

The Child Care Center Director at Viking Child Care Center, operated by the Faculty Student Association of Hudson Valley Community College, Inc., is responsible for the comprehensive administration and coordination of an early child care development program. This role involves curriculum development, ensuring compliance with licensing and accreditation standards, managing personnel, developing and administering budgets, and seeking grant funding. The Director must foster positive interactions with children, parents, staff, and the College community, while also possessing strong communication skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field.
  • Minimum two years full time teaching experience in a child day care setting.
  • Minimum two years supervisory experience as a child care director or assistant director in a medium to large center.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to successfully coordinate and administer all areas of a comprehensive early child care development program, to include curriculum development, licensing and accreditation, personnel management, budget development and administration and grant procurement and administration.
  • Must be able to interact positively with children, parents, staff and the College community.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Completed application form and current resume.
  • Minimum of three professional and three personal references.
  • Official college transcript.
  • Clearance through the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and maltreatment, a crime conviction statement and required fingerprints.

Responsibilities

  • Plan the annual calendar for the Center.
  • Enforce all health, safety, and licensing regulations.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Schedule and lead monthly staff meetings.
  • Plan and attend meetings of the Child Care Advisory Committee.
  • Evaluate the performance of the Center.
  • Ensure compliance with New York State Office of Children and Family Services Child Day Care Center Regulations.
  • Prepare re-licensing applications.
  • Ensure compliance with National Association of Education of Young Children curriculum and QualityStarsNY standards.
  • Complete annual reports for NAEYC and QualityStarsNY.
  • Prepare re-accreditation applications.
  • Maintain necessary records and ensure compliance for continued participation in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Prepare cycle menus in compliance with CACFP requirements and coordinate daily meal schedules.
  • Review curriculum goals and content for Infant, Toddler, and Preschool Programs.
  • Provide opportunities for parent participation in established programs.
  • Schedule staff training.
  • Encourage staff to participate in Professional Development programs.
  • Review and update Center documentation and procedures.
  • Perform any required daily duties in case of staff absences.
  • Interview prospective families and educate them on center policies, procedures, practices, curriculum, schedule, and fees.
  • Maintain positive relationships with all parents and encourage family involvement.
  • Promote a positive attitude towards student-parents’ academic achievement.
  • Promote parents’ active involvement in Center programs and activities.
  • Act as a liaison between parents and campus and community resources.
  • Prepare and administer the annual budget.
  • Monitor the food budget and obtain food items for the meal program.
  • Prepare grant applications and administer grant funds.
  • Prepare county and other agency reimbursement contracts.
  • Prepare parent contracts.
  • Collect parent fees and coordinate billings and maintenance of accounts receivable.
  • Coordinate billings of county and other agency accounts receivable.
  • Prepare reports for New York State Office of Children and Family Services, CACFP, counties, and other agencies.
  • Process purchase orders and forward necessary supporting paperwork.
  • Prepare other financial reports as required.
  • Prepare annual SUNY grant application.
  • Respond to Requests for Proposal from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
  • Investigate and solicit federal, state, and private sector grant opportunities.
  • Prepare annual fundraising event schedule and develop materials to support fundraising efforts.
  • Reconcile fundraising balances.
  • Publicize fundraising events through campus and community media.
  • Promote the Center through on-campus publication and various off-campus media.
  • Develop and revise various Center publications.
  • Develop good community relationships and project a positive image of the Center.
  • Recruit, select, train, and supervise Center staff.
  • Conduct new staff orientations.
  • Maintain personnel records.
  • Review and sign all staff timesheets and approve all leave requests.
  • Manage staff schedules.
  • Prepare teacher evaluations.
  • Review intern evaluations.
  • Mentor staff to resolve any personnel conflicts or issues.
  • Maintain inventory records for indoor and outdoor equipment.
  • Plan for equipment replacements.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and safe environment for children in the Center.
