About The Position

The Child Care Assistant assists the classroom teachers in all aspects of the program, helping to create a total learning environment tailored to the individual needs of each child. The assistant is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the classroom, center, and equipment to meet the nurturing and physical care responsibilities of the children.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • 1 - 2 years Assisting or teaching children (Required)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) obtained with 1 year of hire
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check determination (Cogent)

Nice To Haves

  • Non Degree Program in high school coursework in the Early Childhood Education Career Pathway (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct assistance to teachers and staff as needed.
  • Supports the teaching staff, center philosophy, program, and curriculum, assisting with all child care and educational activities.
  • Uses appropriate teaching techniques at all times.
  • Gives children guidance for the proper care and use of supplies, learning materials, and equipment.
  • Understands and knows the child's family.
  • Helps with general housekeeping tasks.
  • Promotes a positive environment for children, families, and staff.
  • Treats all children, families, and staff members with dignity and respect, allowing for individual differences.
  • Maintains appropriate communication with staff, children, and families at all times.
  • Maintains an open, warm, and very professional relationship with all families.
  • Knows all health and emergency policies of the program and is ready to implement them if necessary.
  • Ensures safety and security of students while providing a clean environment.
  • Ensures the safety of all children in the assistant's care.
  • Maintains a clean child center environment both inside and outside the center.
  • Encourages and instructs children in personal hygiene and group health practices.
  • Reports any suspect child abuse to the supervisor.
  • Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission, and vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age-specific customer service skills.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
