As a Teacher Assistant, you will work side-by-side with teachers and families to provide a home away from home for children in our care, according to NAEYC guidelines.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or its equivalent recognized by the Delaware Department of Education
  • Minimum of six months’ work experience (to include 500 hours) working with children birth through second grade in a group setting
  • Option A: Complete TECE 1 or 60 hours of quality-assured training that may be counted towards a CDA from one of these training entities. Be sure to complete at least 10 hours in at least 4 CDA subject areas.
  • Option B: Complete a traditional high school’s early care and education program in 2018 to present. You must receive at least a C- in the program.
  • Option C: Earn at least six college credits from a C-RAC Member accredited college or university with three in early childhood education and three credits in child development. You must receive at least a C- in the courses.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and remain organized
  • Ability to work within regular operating hours
  • Must meet state criteria for child care employment
  • Proficiency in functional written and oral English is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervised experience may reduce the required experience by half.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the safety and supervision of children ages 6 weeks – 12 years.
  • Assisting teachers with instruction in the classroom.
  • Decorating inside and outside of classrooms as needed.
  • Maintaining a warm and safe environment that is clean and permits children to grow and explore.
  • Interacting with children to encourage their involvement in activities.
  • Providing effective communication with parents/guardians about their child.
