As a Teacher Assistant, you will work side-by-side with teachers and families to provide a home away from home for children in our care, according to NAEYC guidelines.

Requirements

At least 18 years of age
High school diploma or its equivalent recognized by the Delaware Department of Education
Minimum of six months’ work experience (to include 500 hours) working with children birth through second grade in a group setting
Option A: Complete TECE 1 or 60 hours of quality-assured training that may be counted towards a CDA from one of these training entities. Be sure to complete at least 10 hours in at least 4 CDA subject areas.
Option B: Complete a traditional high school’s early care and education program in 2018 to present. You must receive at least a C- in the program.
Option C: Earn at least six college credits from a C-RAC Member accredited college or university with three in early childhood education and three credits in child development. You must receive at least a C- in the courses.
Strong customer service skills
Ability to multitask and remain organized
Ability to work within regular operating hours
Must meet state criteria for child care employment
Proficiency in functional written and oral English is required.

Nice To Haves

Supervised experience may reduce the required experience by half.

Responsibilities

Ensuring the safety and supervision of children ages 6 weeks – 12 years.
Assisting teachers with instruction in the classroom.
Decorating inside and outside of classrooms as needed.
Maintaining a warm and safe environment that is clean and permits children to grow and explore.
Interacting with children to encourage their involvement in activities.
Providing effective communication with parents/guardians about their child.
