This is a developmental position leading to a full performance level Child Care Assistant, NF-1702-02. Upon satisfactory performance and one year completion of general working experience, an employee may be non-competitively promoted to the Child Care Assistant, NF-1702-02 at management’s request with potential for a higher rate in pay. The Child Care Assistant (Developmental) plans and executes appropriate early childhood education experiences with a variety of materials to promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child. They work with the director and teachers in developing and implementing age-appropriate curriculum and activities. The role helps establish a program environment that promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth, and adults. The assistant provides and leads planned activities for program participants, interacting with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques. Professional interaction with staff members, parents, and the command is expected. The role also assists in maintaining program participation data and completing required daily reports. Responsibilities include preparing, arranging, and maintaining indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate the daily schedule. The assistant monitors children in various settings, maintains control and accounts for their whereabouts and safety at all times. They may also help arrange for and serve snacks/meals and perform routine caregiving tasks. This includes assisting with materials and activities, receiving children, interacting with them, and attending to their physical needs. Ensuring care is provided in accordance with standards, assisting in planning and conducting activities, conducting health checks, ensuring the safety and well-being of children, completing reports, and interacting with parents are also key duties. Other related duties as assigned.
