About The Position

Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is seeking a Child and Youth Program Assistant to support and enhance the quality of life for Marines, their families, and the Marine Corps Community. This role is part of a team-oriented environment with military personnel, civilian employees, contractors, and volunteers. The position provides developmental care and instruction for children and youth aged 6 weeks to 18 years within Child and Youth Programs (CYP). This is a developmental role designed to provide experience and training for advancement to higher-level positions. The incumbent works under close direction, performing routine child care and youth development tasks following instructions. Work is closely observed and reviewed to assess progress and readiness for further training. The duties will increase in responsibility and specialization within CYP operations, aiming to develop skills for advancement. The incumbent is a mandated reporter for suspected child abuse and neglect.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Be able to lift and carry children and objects up to 45lbs independently and over 45lbs with assistance.
  • Favorable adjudicated background checks are required.
  • Position is subject to immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children and youth.
  • Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent physicals, thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.
  • Must complete all DoW and Service training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and any required certifications.
  • Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • The incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
  • Direct Deposit of total NET pay is mandatory as a condition of employment for all appointments to positions within MCCS.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing planned, developmentally appropriate activities, schedules, and routines for children/youth.
  • Assists with attending to the developmental needs of children/youth in assigned area, including relationship building.
  • Works cooperatively as a member of a team and exhibits strong interpersonal skills with children, youth, and adults.
  • Assists in supervising children and youth during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings, and during special events.
  • Cares for children and youth with special needs as directed by the supervisor or other higher graded employee.
  • Responds to minor illness or injury, renders aid as needed, and completes and submits accident/incident report documentation.
