Alleghany Highlands Community Services: Our Story For over 40 years, AHCS has been the primary public behavioral healthcare provider in the Alleghany Highlands area, offering services to adults and children with challenges related to mental health, substance use, and developmental disabilities.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of serious mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.
  • Strong observational abilities.
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with those receiving services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics.
  • Proficiency in time management.
  • Proficiency in active listening.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to engage with clients and document care using electronic medical records.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel for home visits and various AHCS sites.
  • Ability to pass all required training modules.
  • Must undergo a background check, including social services review, and drug screen.

  • Knowledge and skills required for the position are: Knowledge of the nature of serious mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders depending on the population served; Ability to observe and report accurately on the functioning of individuals and families; Ability to engage and sustain ongoing relationships with individuals receiving services; Ability to learn and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to perform Case Management services to clients; Ability to handle confidential information appropriately; Must possess time management skills; Ability to effectively use active listening skills; Ability to listen to what other people are saying taking time to understand the points being made asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times; Ability to work independently performing position duties under close supervision initially and then general supervision going forward. Ability to document in an electronic medical record system. Knowledge understanding and commitment to professional ethics; Ability to make home visits and to travel; Strong verbal and written communication skills; To drive and must possess a valid driver's license. May be called upon to travel to any AHCS worksite; transport clients and provide services to clients at other locations. Regular attendance at training and AHCS meetings may require travel to a variety of AHCS sites.
