About The Position

This is a Full-Time 40 Hour Weekly position with the SD Human Services Center. The South Dakota Human Services Center, a behavioral health hospital provides services in adult acute psychiatric, psychiatric rehabilitation, substance use disorder treatment, geriatrics, and adolescent patients, located in Yankton, is seeking a board eligible/board certified Psychiatrist to serve the adolescent patients. This position provides psychiatric support services for the evaluation, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of adolescents admitted to or residing within the Human Services Center.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of South Dakota.
  • Knowledge of methods and principles of medicine
  • Knowledge of diagnosis, care and treatment of patients, including adolescents, with mental illness
  • Knowledge of recent research and developments in psychiatry
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of in-patient treatment
  • Knowledge of psychiatric evaluation of patients
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications
  • Ability to diagnose and classify mental disorders with established criteria as set forth in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual
  • Ability to write psychiatric evaluation reports and discharge summaries
  • Ability to prescribe appropriate medications and monitor results
  • Ability to exchange ideas, information and opinions with others to formulate treatment plans
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to collaborate with colleagues
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation.
  • Successful applicant(s) will undergo an abuse and neglect screening.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosis of patients
  • Establishing and directing treatment plans for adolescent patients
  • Serving as a member of a treatment team which reviews and determines prescribed treatment
  • Prescribes medication for patients
  • Monitors therapeutic progress of patients
  • Instructing medical students in treatment methodology and evaluates their work
  • Provides consultations as requested
