About The Position

The VA Long Beach Healthcare System is seeking a Chief Medical Physicist to provide comprehensive quality assurance and operational oversight for its radiation therapy services. This role involves ensuring compliance with national standards, managing equipment quality, and supervising technical staff. The position is based in Long Beach, California, a vibrant waterfront city offering numerous recreational and cultural activities.

Requirements

PhD degree in Medical Physics
At least 5 years of experience performing QA procedures
3 years experience in Therapeutic Medical Physics in a healthcare system that is ACR or APEx certified
3 years experience with Varian Linear Accelerators: TrueBeam with Brain Lab Accessories following standards of TG-142
3 years experience with Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) including Cone Beam CT
3 years experience with Eclipse treatment planning system; and ARIA record and verify system, including the following treatment modalities: 2D/3D Conformal, SRS, SRT, SBRT, and IMRT/VMAT
3 years experience IMRT QA: MApCheck (or equivalent)
3 years experience Client Discovery CT Simulator (or equivalent)
3 years experience using Superficial X-ray Machine
Successfully performed one acceptance testing on a linear accelerator
Successfully performed one commission of a linear accelerator for a treatment planning system
Board Certified in Medical Physics or Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology

Responsibilities

Provide quarterly Quality Assurance reports for the Quality Assurance Committee and Radiation Safety Committee.
Attend quarterly Radiation Safety Meetings.
Track, evaluate, and document all equipment-related quality assurance data, including TLD and credentialing measurements for independent 3rd party analysis.
Provide shielding surveys and reports as required by the National VA Health Physics Program.
Ensure licenses are current for the linear accelerator equipment.
Ensure Radiation Oncology Service has appropriate licenses for users of all software applications.
Ensure continuity of medical physics operations, including communication among key personnel.
Develop, implement, supervise, and periodically review all QMP policies and procedures pertaining to radiation therapy equipment.
Design, implement, and periodically review all aspects of the QMP involving radiotherapy equipment.
Oversee the technical activities of all other physicists, dosimetrists, and other staff members assigned to the unit.
Direct the technical aspects of treatment procedures.
Perform duties qualifying them as a supervisor (not administrative oversight of federal employees).
