About The Position

The Long Beach Unified School District is seeking a visionary, collaborative, and proactive leader to serve as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools or designee, the CTO serves as a principal advisor on District-wide technology initiatives and leads the strategic development, implementation, and administration of technology and information services. This includes educational technology, student information management, infrastructure, cloud services, data security, and business systems aligned with the mission, vision, and values of the Board of Education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, business administration, education, or a related field.
  • 7 years of management experience in a school district, higher education institution, or public agency involving strategic technology planning and oversight of educational and business systems.
  • Deep knowledge of system architecture, network infrastructure, data security compliance, database administration, and the Microsoft 365 suite.
  • Understanding of government purchasing, public school district operations, fiscal accountability, and public agency contracting.
  • Proven ability to drive forward-thinking solutions, communicate complex technical topics to non-technical audiences, build strong vendor and internal relationships, and lead large-scale change management.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License and use of a personal automobile.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Chief Technology Officer is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the vision for District technology services, aligning educational technology, student information management, infrastructure, and business systems with organizational goals.
  • Lead enterprise resource planning (ERP) initiatives, legacy system modernization, and project portfolio management.
  • Direct daily operations across networks, cloud services, application development, telecommunications, end-user support and direct data security and recovery procedures.
  • Partner with school administrators and office teams to evaluate, deliver, and support technical solutions that meet diverse learning and administrative needs.
  • Oversee vendor partnerships, contract negotiations, proposal evaluations, and technology equipment replacement cycles.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, and analyze expenditures.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and mentor assigned staff while fostering a customer-focused, innovative, and continuous-learning culture.
