About The Position

The Chief Technology Officer / General Manager (CTO) will join Rotary’s executive management team, reporting to the CEO / General Secretary, and will lead and direct technology and delivery teams in Evanston and Pune to improve the member experience. This is a hands-on transformational role: the CTO will lead and foster a culture of innovation, accountability and continuous improvement, setting direction and overseeing execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or business required; master’s degree in computer science, MBA, or a related technical field highly preferred.
  • Additional experience/education/certifications may substitute for required experience.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience leading and managing IT organizations, including 5+ years leading director-level leaders and senior managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to set a multi-year technology strategy and translate it into executable roadmaps, outcomes, and measurable impact.
  • Experience negotiating and managing high-value contracts and vendor partnerships.
  • Strong grasp of modern digital platforms and delivery practices (e.g., cloud, integration patterns, collaboration and communications technologies).
  • Proven track record as a business and product-oriented technology leader: fluent in outcome-based delivery; comfortable partnering as a peer with product and business leaders, not just a service provider to them.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with all levels of the organization and boards of governance.
  • Very strong conceptual, analytical, judgment, and communication abilities; and a track record of achieving results directly and through others.
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as the organization's senior technology leader and strategic advisor to the General Secretary/CEO and Executive Management Team; setting and executing a multi-year technology strategy and roadmap aligned with Rotary’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Supporting product teams; ensuring technology delivery, platform reliability, and shared services are aligned to product roadmaps and participant and member centered outcomes.
  • Leading, developing, and coaching technology leaders and teams in Evanston and Pune, India; setting clear expectations, supporting teams and continuously improving how we work.
  • Establishing governance for prioritization, portfolio management, and delivery through the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) to ensure work is aligned to strategy and delivered predictably.
  • Ensuring Rotary’s systems are architected for longevity, performance, maintainability, and scalability; addressing technology debt while maintaining business continuity.
  • Ensuring technology solutions are defined, designed, developed, tested, and delivered on time and with quality. Personally inspect progress to ensure commitments are met.
  • Ensuring technology systems—including endpoint, data centers, networking infrastructure, telephony, databases, and cloud platforms—are maintained, secure, and operational.
  • Ensuring communication systems between international offices are maintained, optimized, and operational.
  • Ensuring security, privacy, and compliance posture meets applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements; leading risk management and incident readiness.
  • Ensuring technology-related policies, procedures, standards, and processes are documented, communicated, understood, and complied with.
  • Overseeing vendor strategy and contracts to maximize value, manage risk, and ensure delivery against commitments.
  • Owning the total operating and capital budgets of the information technology division, ensuring strong financial stewardship and return on investment.
  • Defining and tracking key performance indicators for technology delivery, platform reliability, team capability, and member experience and report transparently on progress and gaps.
