About The Position

This role involves providing patient care and producing high-quality ultrasound images for a diverse patient group, from newborns to geriatrics. The Chief Technologist is responsible for patient assessment, monitoring, and scheduling, as well as ensuring proficiency with imaging equipment. This position also includes supervisory duties, such as providing backup supervision for other radiology sections, overseeing student training and evaluations, and maintaining professional certifications. The role requires the ability to perform advanced procedures in specialized areas like CT, MRI, Nuclear, Ultrasound, Mammography, and Diagnostic imaging, including OR, C-arm, and biopsy procedures. Additionally, the Chief Technologist is responsible for staff scheduling, coordinating procedures, developing practice parameters, maintaining a professional atmosphere, and ensuring quality control and record-keeping.

Requirements

Must be a graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or regionally accredited and approved School of Radiologic Technology.
Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiography or equivalent certification.
Must be licensed by the State of Florida to operate ionizing and non-ionizing imaging equipment according to MQA, JOINT COMMISSION, and ALARA standards.
CPR/BLS in accordance to Halifax Health policies required.
Previous experience in a specified Radiologic Technology science or specialty area is required.
Ability to make independent decisions.
Performs well under stress.
Must be skilled in providing care for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Nice To Haves

A four-year program is preferred for formal education.
An associate degree is preferred for formal education (Level I & II).
2-3 years of experience in a specified Radiologic Technology science or specialty area is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide patient care and produce high-quality ultrasound images for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Conduct patient assessment and monitoring.
Provide contrast or radiopharmaceutical administration with patient assessment and follow-up information.
Oversee patient scheduling and obtain/disseminate appropriate medical information.
Demonstrate skills and knowledge of section computer and/or equipment technology.
Provide backup supervision (coordination) and direction to all radiology sections in the absence of a coordinator.
Perform duties of a Level II Radiographer/Technologist when requested.
Provide appropriate level of student supervision, complete competency and performance evaluations, and organize student labs.
Maintain certification according to State, National, and medical center regulations.
Perform advanced procedures in specialized areas such as CT, MRI, Nuclear, Ultrasound, Mammography, and Diagnostic imaging.
Demonstrate knowledge and skill in OR, C-arm, biopsy, and diagnostic radiographic/fluoroscopic procedures.
Communicate effectively with all medical center personnel and medical staff.
Perform all requirements of a Level I Radiographer/Technologist.
Perform all general radiographic/fluoroscopic diagnostic procedures, including Emergency and Trauma care.
Perform basic invasive procedures involving specialized areas.
Provide direct and indirect student supervision and assist with clinical education.
Schedule staff to maintain maximum throughput and meet workload requirements.
Oversee scheduling of patients to allow for maximum productivity and quality patient care.
Coordinate and supervise performance of technical and non-technical procedures to maintain quality patient care.
Coordinate distribution of images to appropriate radiologists for interpretation.
Design and implement updated/new practice parameters and protocols.
Maintain a professional atmosphere by providing positive and equitable working conditions and proactive problem-solving.
Provide direction and instruction for employees/students on protocols, techniques, and equipment on an ongoing basis.
In-service staff/students on updated/new procedures and equipment.
Coordinate and promote continuing/mandatory education opportunities to update skills and assist staff in maintaining credentials/licensure.
Oversee QA/QC procedures to maintain accuracy in equipment usage and patient handling.
Maintain required records on practice parameters and equipment.
Cost-effectively maintain a sufficient level of supplies.
Update modality P&P manual on a yearly basis.
Attend departmental meetings and participate in developmental/continuing education meetings.
Continually update education as required for National, State, and professional certification.
Continually update education as required by HHMC, JCAHO/OSHA, etc. standards.
Maintain specialty certification such as Emergency preparedness, individual modality certification, etc.
Pursue ongoing continuing education in professional practice and licensing, including active participation in off-site professional seminars.
Assist coordinator with scheduling that provides sufficient staff for quality patient care and minimal overtime.
Act in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the Coordinator.
Act as a liaison between staff and Radiologists when the coordinator is unavailable.
