About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Chief Systems Engineer to support the Space Weather Observations - Mission Operations Services (SWO-MOS) program, providing full mission satellite command and control for NOAA's Space Weather Next (SWX) initiative, including the L1 Series observatories and GOES-R series satellites.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and hold a Public Trust clearance
  • 10 years of systems engineering experience for satellite ground systems - including requirements decomposition, model-based engineering, virtualization, service architectures, and cloud-based services
  • Strong knowledge of satellite ground system disciplines: mission planning, command & control, communications, data processing, space-to-ground interfaces, network topologies, and cybersecurity
  • Proficiency in data structures and data analysis for problem-solving
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum frameworks

  • Windows and Linux OS experience
  • Software/systems testing and specification writing experience
  • DOORS requirements management; Atlassian JIRA or similar configuration/change management tools
  • CMMI Level 3 process experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end system design, development, and lifecycle management for on-premises and cloud-based ground systems
  • Generate, translate, decompose, and validate system requirements from customer inputs and high-level product strategies; ensure compliance with government standards
  • Design interfaces, integrate system components, and establish engineering standards, practices, and procedures
  • Participate in design reviews, verification and validation activities, and customer acceptance testing
  • Assess system performance against technical measures and ensure design integrity throughout the program lifecycle
  • Coordinate identification, reporting, and resolution of system anomalies
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application to the program
  • Serve as a key technical advisor to program leadership, customers, and partner contractors on schedule, resources, design, and implementation
  • Contribute to technical risk identification, opportunity assessment, and lessons learned
