About The Position

The Chief Radiologic Technologist oversees all aspects of Diagnostic Imaging, from strategic planning and budgeting to staffing and technology implementation. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • California Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) Certificate (California) – Required
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Radiography certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certificate from Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
  • Radiologic technologist fluoroscopy permit – Required
  • BCLS certificate from American Heart Association or American Red Cross – Required
  • Accredited Radiologic Technologist Program graduate – Required
  • Excellent technical skills in radiology, including proficiency in operating and troubleshooting a wide range of radiologic equipment.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory abilities, with the capacity to motivate and inspire a team to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Solid understanding of radiation safety practices, including the ability to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate and detailed records, as well as strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations, ensuring the delivery of timely and accurate radiology services.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles and practices, with the ability to implement and monitor quality control programs.
  • Proficiency in using radiology software and electronic medical record systems to manage patient information and radiology reports.

  • Five years' leadership experience in a full service imaging department in an acute care medical center: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervises diagnostic imaging personnel, overseeing recruitment, hiring, orientation, professional development, and performance evaluations. Optimizes staffing levels to meet departmental productivity targets and clinical standards.
  • Collaborates with the executive leadership team on strategic planning to drive departmental and organizational growth. Manages the operational direction of all radiology modalities, including Nuclear Medicine, MRI, X-ray, CT, Ultrasound, and Mammography.
  • Coordinates multi-site operations by maintaining productivity levels and developing performance, safety, and regulatory quality standards.
  • Directs fiscal management, including forecasting, operating performance monitoring, and oversight of salary, operational, and capital budgets. Partners with physicians and hospital departments to enhance customer satisfaction while ensuring compliance with current practice standards.
  • Monitors patient satisfaction and ensures imaging services adhere to safety, risk management, and federal/state accreditation regulations. Maintains patient records in strict accordance with HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Identifies and implements strategic initiatives to reduce operational costs and improve service quality.
  • Facilitates the seamless transition of all Imaging Services into new Outpatient and Inpatient facilities.
  • Sustains consistent service levels and operational continuity during periods of construction and facility transition.
  • Oversees radiology IT systems and ensures the maintenance and functionality of all equipment. Establishes, communicates, and monitors departmental policies regarding radiation safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluates and recommends the acquisition of emerging technologies based on market developments and competitive healthcare trends.
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive Equipment Plan for the procurement, maintenance, and strategic replacement of imaging assets.
  • Ensures strict adherence to state and federal safety and quality assurance rules, maintaining compliance with TJC (JCAHO), NRC, CDPH, CMS, ACR, and other local agencies.
  • Maintains sustained readiness for all accreditation standards (e.g., ACR, MQSA, or modality-specific programs) based on organizational and payer requirements.
  • Promotes an organizational culture of safety, ensuring consistent implementation of guidelines from TJC (JCAHO), National Quality Forum, and Leapfrog.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
