About The Position

We are seeking a strategic, execution-focused Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help lead a mission-driven organization committed to delivering high-quality services and measurable outcomes—especially for Veterans and those we serve. This is not a role for someone who simply maintains operations. This is for a leader who builds systems that work, teams that perform, and outcomes that matter. As COO, your leadership will be defined by clarity, accountability, and results. You will ensure all grants are fully compliant, audit-ready, and consistently meet or exceed performance expectations, drive high-quality, consistent service delivery across all programs and locations, build and lead a high-performing leadership team grounded in accountability and execution, ensure organizational goals are achieved on time—with discipline and precision, oversee performance data that is accurate, actionable, and used to drive continuous improvement, identify and resolve operational challenges at the root, preventing recurrence, and scale organizational impact while maintaining strong compliance and financial health. The work we do is critical. The individuals we depend on consistency, quality, and results. This role ensures that our organization doesn’t just operate—it performs at a level that truly changes lives.

Requirements

  • Proven executive leadership experience in operations, preferably within nonprofit, government-funded, or mission-driven environments
  • Strong track record of driving performance, accountability, and measurable outcomes
  • Deep understanding of compliance, grants management, and audit readiness
  • Ability to translate strategy into clear plans and disciplined execution
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams across multiple functions or locations
  • A systems thinker who solves problems once—and solves them right

Responsibilities

  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans across all programs and locations
  • Drive execution of organizational goals and ensure alignment with grant outcomes and community needs
  • Ensure all services are delivered with consistency, quality, and measurable impact
  • Oversee operations of multiple federal and state grants
  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory, reporting, and performance requirements
  • Lead preparation for audits, monitoring visits, and renewals
  • Identify and mitigate compliance and operational risks proactively
  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable the leadership team across programs and functions
  • Establish clear performance expectations and measurable outcomes
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence
  • Ensure organizational alignment through structured communication and planning rhythms
  • Maintain and continuously refine the Accountability Chart
  • Oversee operations across multiple locations statewide
  • Ensure consistency in service delivery, staff performance, and veteran experience
  • Identify operational gaps and implement scalable solutions
  • Support regional leadership in achieving both local and organizational goal
  • Implement and maintain performance management systems, including KPIs and scorecards
  • Ensure data integrity and use data to drive decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Lead structured problem-solving and ensure issues are resolved at the root
  • Establish and reinforce disciplined meeting and planning cadences
  • Partner with finance leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and grant fund utilization
  • Ensure financial sustainability while maintaining service quality
  • Align operations across programs, finance, HR, and compliance functions
  • Support relationships with funders, partners, and key stakeholders
