About The Position

AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center is seeking a distinguished and visionary Chief of Thoracic Surgery to lead and advance our thoracic surgical program within the Heart & Vascular Institute. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for shaping the strategic, clinical, operational, and academic direction of thoracic surgery across the system. This leader will play a central role in program growth, multidisciplinary integration, and innovation—positioning AtlantiCare as a regional destination for advanced thoracic surgical care aligned with Vision 2030.

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited institution
  • Board Certification in Thoracic Surgery (American Board of Thoracic Surgery or equivalent)
  • Eligible for or currently holding licensure in the State of New Jersey
  • 7–10+ years of clinical experience with demonstrated leadership experience preferred
  • Proven track record of clinical excellence, program development, and quality outcomes
  • Experience with minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for all thoracic surgery services, including lung, esophageal, mediastinal, and minimally invasive procedures.
  • Lead the expansion of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary thoracic oncology program in collaboration with oncology, pulmonology, and radiology.
  • Champion the growth of minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery, advancing surgical capabilities and patient outcomes through innovative techniques and technologies.
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for thoracic surgery aligned with the Heart & Vascular Institute and system priorities.
  • Partner with executive leadership to drive growth, market expansion, and service line integration.
  • Monitor and improve key performance metrics, including surgical volumes, quality outcomes, length of stay, and patient experience.
  • Establish standardized clinical pathways and evidence-based protocols.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives, including morbidity and mortality reviews, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing thoracic surgeons and advanced practice providers.
  • Serve as a key liaison between medical staff and administration while fostering a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
