About The Position

The Chief of Staff serves as a member of Wagner’s administrative leadership team and as a strategic advisor to the Dean, overseeing the administration and daily operations of the Dean’s Office while advancing the School’s strategic priorities and institutional initiatives. Reporting directly to the Dean, the position provides leadership across a broad portfolio of operational, financial, administrative, and strategic responsibilities, ensuring effective coordination, communication, and execution of priorities across the School and University. The Chief of Staff and their team manage high-level projects and sensitive matters, serve as a key adviser and representative to the Dean, and foster collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, community partners, and external stakeholders. The role supports organizational effectiveness and institutional engagement by working collaboratively with leadership, faculty, and administrative teams on strategic initiatives, operational planning, communications coordination, and cross functional projects across the School. The Chief of Staff works closely with School and University leadership to facilitate decision-making, strengthen partnerships, support financial and administrative operations, and enhance the School’s visibility, effectiveness, and alignment with its mission and goals. The Chief of Staff will also play a lead role in establishing and facilitating government and community collaborations in the greater New York City metropolitan area, establishing and maintaining Wagner’s involvement in the city and state dialogue.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in academic administration, government or comparable setting, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing executive-level operations and staff.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge with program administration, project management, planning and promoting special events.
  • Familiarity with faculty affairs, facilities resources and managing budgets.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and excellent discretion, maintaining the utmost confidentiality.
  • Ability to develop, implement and interpret policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong research, writing and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate sensitive information diplomatically both verbally and in writing to individuals at all levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders in a multi-constituency environment.
  • Ability to lead diverse, inter-departmental initiatives, and manage and prioritize complex projects.
  • Ability to forge partnerships, build relationships, and garner support from internal and external constituencies to ensure that individuals and units or departments work together smoothly.
