Duke Regional Hospital seeks to hire an Administrative Director (Chief of Staff) who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together! The Chief of Staff (CoS) at Duke Regional Hospital serves as a strategic partner to senior leadership, ensuring that organizational priorities are clearly defined, effectively executed, and continuously optimized. This role bridges strategy and operations—translating leadership vision into actionable plans, aligning teams around priorities, and driving efficiency across the organization. The Chief of Staff will be leading project management to drive cross-functional initiatives, support strategic planning, improve operational processes, and enable senior leaders to focus on high-impact decisions and external engagement.

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Five years of progressive administrative experience, generally in a hospital, health care or similar service industry to become proficient in managing quality of care and financial performance over assigned hospital service line.

  • A Master's degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration or a related field may be substituted for experience on a 1:1 basis.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior leadership to define, refine, and communicate organizational strategy and annual priorities.
  • Lead or support strategic planning processes, including goal-setting, road mapping, and performance tracking.
  • Translate high-level strategy into executable plans with clear milestones, ownership, and success metrics.
  • Monitor progress against strategic initiatives and proactively identify risks, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Drive operational excellence by identifying inefficiencies, streamlining processes, and improving workflows across teams.
  • Support prioritization of initiatives to ensure focus on the highest-impact work.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking operational performance, key initiatives, and leadership decisions.
  • Ensure alignment across departments to reduce duplication of effort and improve coordination.
  • Act as a thought partner to senior leaders, providing analysis, recommendations, and structured decision-making support.
  • Prepare briefing materials, dashboards, and presentations for leadership meetings and board engagements.
  • Facilitate leadership meetings, offsites, and cross-functional forums, ensuring clear agendas, outcomes, and follow-through.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and sounding board on organizational challenges and opportunities.
  • Lead high-priority, cross-functional projects from concept through execution.
  • Build strong relationships across DRH to foster collaboration, accountability, and shared ownership.
  • Act as a connector between teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment with leadership priorities.
  • Support change management efforts related to new strategies, structures, or processes.
  • Help establish clear roles, responsibilities, and decision rights across the organization.
  • Contribute to building a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational rigor.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
