Chief of Staff to the CTO

GovEagle•New York, NY
•$150,000 - $180,000•Onsite

About The Position

GovEagle is hiring a high-slope generalist to work directly with the CTO and take over product thinking that connects customer needs to engineering. The role centers on talking to customers, prioritizing needs, writing buildable specifications, and ensuring shipped features are adopted. The position also runs the engineering team's operating cadence with the CTO and owns customer-health metrics. The company values trajectory and ability over years of experience. The role involves owning the product loop from discovery through launch and adoption; coordinating cycle planning, priorities, and release readiness; defining and monitoring customer-health measures; handling technical customer interactions; and using AI coding tools to prototype and ship fixes, internal tools, and integrations. The position is based in New York City, with in-person work four days per week.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship, because the role works in customer environments subject to export controls.
  • Ability to work in person in New York City four days a week.
  • Experience building with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar, and having shipped real things using them.
  • Have shipped something to real users, such as a startup, a product built on a small team, or customer work as a forward deployed or solutions engineer.
  • Technical ability to read code, debug a failing integration, and work effectively with engineers; a formal computer science degree is not required.
  • Clear writing that enables customers' IT leads and engineers to act on the same document.
  • High agency, ability to learn quickly, willingness to seek feedback, and comfort with the possibility of running a company someday.

Nice To Haves

  • A startup of your own or a side project used by real people.

Responsibilities

  • Run customer discovery and call reviews, translate feedback into prioritized specifications, and own features from definition through launch and adoption.
  • Run cycle planning and maintain the priorities document with the CTO; keep Linear accurate and own release readiness, including QA checklists, dogfooding, and release decisions.
  • Define and track new-user retention, stickiness, and account health on the analytics dashboard; build warning flags for at-risk accounts and lead projects to improve lagging measures.
  • Triage support escalations, follow up on post-call action items, and handle the technical portion of demos and trials.
  • Use AI coding tools to prototype and ship fixes, internal tools, and integrations.
