Chief of Staff to the Chief Banking Officer

First United BankPlano, TX
Onsite

About The Position

This is not an administrative role or a project manager with a fancy title. This is the person who makes the entire community banking franchise move faster. First United Bank is a purpose-driven financial services enterprise operating across Oklahoma and Texas. The Chief Banking Officer (CBO) leads one of the most complex, high-impact organizations in the company, including Regional Presidents, a Chief Lending Officer, retail and treasury enablement leaders, a Community Bank CFO, a Presidents Advocate, and the community banks themselves. The CBO's highest-value work is coaching Regional Presidents and making strategic decisions that shape the franchise. This role ensures the CBO's priorities are not just set, but are executed. The Chief of Staff will drive initiatives across functions, hold leaders accountable to commitments without positional authority, synthesize complex information into clear decisions, and operate at a pace that matches the urgency of a growing franchise.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in a fast-paced operating environment -- banking, financial services, consulting, or a complex multi-unit business.
  • Experience being close enough to the P&L to understand how decisions create value.
  • Experience leading cross-functional work and influencing leaders who do not report to you.
  • Exceptional analytical skills paired with the ability to synthesize complexity into clear, actionable insight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust rapidly across all levels.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and moving at speed.
  • Naturally organized without being bureaucratic.
  • Ego discipline: the CBO and functional leaders get the spotlight; you make the spotlight possible.

Nice To Haves

  • A track record of making complex organizations move faster.
  • Experience operating in the space between strategy and execution and knowing how to close the gap.
  • People who have worked with you describe you as the person who gets things done and makes everyone around them better.
  • Energized by operating at the center of a high-performing leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Track every major initiative across the franchise, identify what is stalling and why, and drive resolution. Own the discipline that ensures nothing stalls, nothing falls between the cracks, and the CBO always knows where the real issues are. Maintain a living initiative dashboard and be relentless about follow-through.
  • Solve problems when priorities collide, timelines conflict, or handoffs are unclear between lending, retail, treasury, financial analytics, and the regions. Connect the dots, align the moving parts, and make the whole system faster than the sum of its pieces through influence and relationships.
  • Own the CBO's operating cadence, ensuring every meeting has the right agenda, preparation, participants, and follow-through on commitments. Protect the CBO's time by flagging and fixing when the calendar fills with reactive noise instead of coaching and strategy.
  • Pull data and insight from across the franchise, filter the noise, elevate the signal, and deliver decision-ready packages for the CBO. Prepare the CBO for Board presentations, executive reviews, and Diamond partnership conversations. Know what is happening across the franchise before being told.
  • Serve as the CBO's bridge into enterprise-level initiative governance, ensuring community banking priorities are represented, capacity conflicts are surfaced early, and the CBO is never blindsided by enterprise decisions. Attend the Community Bank Business Unit Review Meeting and represent the CBO's perspective.
  • Prepare the CBO for Board presentations, tracking down why cross-functional initiatives stall, sitting in on regional performance reviews, coordinating launch timelines, synthesizing data into decision briefs, and flagging emerging issues.
  • Operate at the intersection of strategy and execution, thinking in systems to understand how decisions in one area affect others. Move fast, think clearly, and turn ambiguity into clarity.
  • Represent the CBO when necessary, requiring judgment, discretion, and the ability to know when to act and when to escalate.
  • Dress professionally.
  • Recommend to supervisor possible methods to improve department.
  • Complete all required compliance exams on a yearly basis.
  • Adhere to all First United Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
