Chief of Staff to the CEO

OpenGovSan Francisco, CA
$150,000 - $200,000Onsite

About The Position

As Chief of Staff to the CEO, you will sit at the center of how this company operates and makes decisions. You will own the operating cadence, drive cross-functional initiatives from problem definition to resolution, and handle the work that keeps the CEO focused on the highest-leverage problems. That means being equally comfortable in a budget-versus-actual, a headcount model, or an organizational question that needs someone to push it to closure. You think clearly under pressure, communicate with precision, and know how to move work forward with the best judgement. You understand how AI tools can accelerate serious work, and you use them that way. If you want a front row seat to how a CEO makes decisions and how a growth-stage company actually scales, this role delivers that.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen: demonstrated ability to interpret P&L statements, headcount plans, and translate financial data into clear executive recommendations.
  • Proven track record managing complex, cross-functional projects or programs end-to-end, with expertise in establishing systems to track progress and accountability.
  • Strong familiarity with AI-enabled tools and a willingness to champion AI adoption across the organization.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical capabilities: comfortable building analyses, interpreting data trends, and presenting actionable recommendations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to honesty, ethical conduct, and maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality.
  • Passion for OpenGov's mission of powering more effective and accountable government.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting a CEO or C-suite executive
  • Deep expertise in operational best practices and goal-setting frameworks (e.g., OKRs) that drive accountability and measurable outcomes.
