About The Position

The Chief of Police is responsible for the comprehensive management and leadership of the TSTC Police Department statewide, reporting directly to the assigned supervisor. This role includes planning, organizing, and directing sworn police officers, security personnel, and dispatch teams across all campuses, ensuring that law and order are maintained.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Certification as a peace officer in Texas.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean criminal record.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage law enforcement teams and resources effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of criminal law, campus security, crime prevention, and emergency preparedness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with staff, agencies, and college leadership.
  • Skilled in assessing situations, making decisions, and resolving conflicts under pressure.
  • Strategic planning to align Police Department operations with the institutional goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop department goals, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure optimal campus safety and security.
  • Lead department personnel, including the selection, training, and promotion of candidates, while holding supervisors accountable for the performance of their teams.
  • Command law enforcement operations for major investigations, emergency situations, and large campus events, applying advanced and innovative practices in campus law enforcement.
  • Collaborate with college staff on security improvements, enforcing criminal laws, traffic rules, and campus security regulations, including compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act.
  • Manage the department’s operating budget, applying fiscal, equipment, and human resources to enhance campus safety.
  • Maintain detailed records of departmental activities, including criminal offenses and motor vehicle registrations, across all campuses.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to local, state, and federal law enforcement and public safety agencies.
  • Monitor new trends in law enforcement, crime prevention, campus security, and emergency preparedness, integrating advancements into departmental practices.
