About The Position

Applications are invited for the Chief of Microbiology and Medical Director at Sinai Health, a fully affiliated hospital of the University of Toronto, comprised of Mount Sinai Hospital, Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute and Circle of Care. Sinai Health combines acute care, complex and rehabilitative care, primary care, home care, and other community-based services to create an innovative and integrated continuum of care, meeting the needs of complex patients. We are seeking an experienced, contemporary leader, able to develop and implement a strategic vision, build teams and establish productive partnerships. The Department of Microbiology at Sinai Health has a longstanding commitment to upholding the core Sinai Values of Service, Humanity, Discovery and Inclusivity and seeks a Chief who can present a vision for operational effectiveness, public responsiveness, and academic excellence to sustain and expand the Department’s impact. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto.

Requirements

  • MD degree
  • Eligible for licensure in Ontario
  • Specialty certification in Medical Microbiology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
  • Eligible for a senior academic appointment (Associate Professor or Full Professor) in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto
  • Demonstrated record of academic excellence and scholarship consistent with the expectations of a University of Toronto endowed Chair
  • Superior leadership qualities
  • Strong operational management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to mentoring junior faculty and fostering partnerships within the hospital and the broader academic and healthcare community
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a workplace and learning environment that is respectful, safe for all staff, trainees and patients

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively leading the Department in achieving operational and academic goals, including high-quality clinical impact, education, and research.
  • Developing and implementing a forward-thinking, renewed strategy for the Department in alignment with Sinai Health’s Strategic Plan – Discovering and Delivering Life Changing Care, the hospital’s Quality Aims and the University’s priorities, reflected in the Sinai Health Research Strategic Plan.
  • Developing and facilitating philanthropic funding with the Sinai Health Foundation.
  • Advancing clinical innovation, scholarship, and collaborative research in microbiology and infectious diseases while translating discoveries into improvements in patient care and public health.
  • Continuing active medical practice.

Benefits

  • Salaried remuneration for leadership and clinical microbiology activities is commensurate with qualifications, trajectory and associated time commitment and exceeds $375,000 per annum.
