About The Position

The Chief of Human Performance Innovation (CHPI) will be the visionary and strategic leader responsible for the overall direction, development, and success of MUSC Health's comprehensive human performance initiative. This executive will establish and grow a world-class, financially sustainable program that integrates cutting-edge science, data analytics, and human-centered principles to optimize the health, wellness, and performance of a diverse population, from elite athletes and military personnel to the tactical professional and the general community. For the Human Performance initiative to achieve its ambitious goals, it must be established as a major strategic enterprise within the MUSC Health system, led by an executive with the authority, influence, and resources to drive collaboration across major universities, create new partnerships with external leaders, and develop sustainable clinical and research opportunities.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent) in a relevant field such as sports medicine, exercise science, biomechanics, or a related discipline. An MBA or equivalent business acumen is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience in an academic medical center, university, professional sports organization, or military performance program.
  • Demonstrated success in building and scaling new programs or service lines.
  • Proven track record of securing and managing major strategic partnerships (academic, corporate, and/or government).
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing a P&L.
  • An established national/international reputation in a field related to human performance, with a strong record of research and publication.
  • Experience that is commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor.
  • Visionary Leadership: Ability to inspire a shared vision and motivate a diverse team toward ambitious goals.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: A creative and proactive approach to building new ventures and revenue streams.
  • Organizational Savvy: Adept at navigating complex organizational structures and building consensus among multiple stakeholders.
  • Exceptional Communicator: Ability to articulate a compelling vision to a wide range of audiences, from scientists and clinicians to business executives and athletes.
  • Data-Informed Decision Maker: Fluency in using data and analytics to inform strategy and measure outcomes.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, and 10 years of progressive experience including 8 years in management/leadership roles.
