About The Position

Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is seeking a Chief of Campus Security to lead campus safety efforts. This role involves shaping a culture of safety, trust, and belonging. The Chief of Campus Security is the top law enforcement leader for BRCC, providing strategic direction, operational management, and policy guidance for all campus public safety activities. The position aims to ensure a safe, secure, and inclusive campus environment aligned with the College’s mission and strategic goals. Key responsibilities include overseeing the modernization of public safety operations, building community trust, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and system regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or other related field from an accredited college or university
  • 10 years of progressive policing experience, including 5 years in a command-level position (e.g., Lieutenant, Captain, Commander, Division Chief).
  • Ability to meet certification requirements under Louisiana Revised Statutes, LRS 17:1805, Authority of University or College Police Officer
  • Experience supervising sworn personnel and managing public safety operations
  • Knowledge of modern policing practices, emergency response, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational effectiveness
  • Demonstrated law enforcement leadership experience with progressively responsible supervisory or management roles.
  • Experience supervising sworn law enforcement personnel and managing public safety operations.
  • Knowledge of modern law enforcement practices, including criminal and administrative investigations, community engagement, emergency response coordination, and professional accountability standards.
  • Experience developing or implementing departmental policies and procedures.
  • Experience coordinating with local, state, or federal law enforcement or emergency response agencies.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational management skills.
  • Knowledge of Clery Act compliance and campus safety regulations
  • Commissioned and completed POST-certified firearms training.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or related field
  • Experience in higher education or campus law enforcement,
  • Experience leading organizational change, modernization efforts, or departmental culture improvements.
  • Experience implementing or managing security technologies (CCTV systems, access control, dispatch systems, etc.).
  • Experience managing budgets, implementing security technology
  • Experience in professional development and training programs.
  • Experience with Incident Command System (ICS) and emergency response coordination
  • Completion of advanced police leadership or management training, such as the FBI National Academy or Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, or possession of related training obtained at a state level.
  • Knowledge of Title IX compliance and campus safety regulations

Responsibilities

  • Provides executive leadership for all public safety operations, including patrol, investigations, and emergency response; establishes departmental vision, priorities, and performance of standards aligned with institutional strategy.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies and procedures in compliance with federal and state laws (including Clery Act), LCTCS requirements, and law enforcement best practices; ensures audit readiness and risk mitigation.
  • Leads campus emergency preparedness planning and response; serves as a key member of the College’s Crisis Management Team; coordinates response protocols and continuity strategies.
  • Builds and sustains relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners; promotes trust through visibility, transparency, and safety education initiatives.
  • Establishes and promotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement; oversees training, certification, and leadership development of public safety personnel.
  • Oversees security technologies, parking operations, and identification systems to support a modern, efficient, and secure campus environment.
  • Develops and manages departmental budget; ensures effective allocation of personnel, equipment, and financial resources.
