About The Position

As part of the hospital administrative team, this role assists with the organization and general operations of the patient care departments to ensure safe and effective care is provided. The Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for the leadership, professional development, and direction of the Clinical Leadership team to assure safety and quality outcomes for those served. This includes retaining administrative oversight through individual department managers and supervisors in Med Surg, Pharmacy, Emergency Department, Surgical Department, Cardiopulmonary, Clinical Education, House Supervisors, Emergency Management, and Bone & Joint. The role participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating organizational services at the administrative level and serves as a member of professional staff committees in matters pertaining to patient care. Demonstrates sound decision-making skills applying applicable nursing theory, scientific knowledge from social, biological, and physical sciences, standards of practice, hospital, and other regulatory requirements to ensure optimal patient care delivery. A committed and cooperative working relationship with patients, visitors, and facility staff is demonstrated. Participates in the development, review, revision, approval, and implementation of policies and procedures that govern patient care. Participates with the governing body, management, medical staff, and clinical leaders in the hospital’s decision-making process. Coordinates with CEO, CFO, and other Administrative team members to assure budgets, productivity, supplies, and equipment meet the expectations of quality outcomes. Serves as a professional role model.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • BSN required
  • One year of management required
  • Current New Mexico RN license and BLS required
  • Advanced computer knowledge.
  • Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.
  • Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.
  • Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations.

  • Provides adequate communication within clinical leadership team.
  • Participates in the continuous Quality Improvement process and assures it is accomplished on an on-going bases.
  • Reviews and monitors work schedules, work hours and assignments of Nursing services personnel and effects change as needed.
  • Keeps informed regarding patient census an acuity.
  • Makes nursing service rounds on regular basis.
  • Promotes and encourages professional growth and development of Nursing service personnel through attendance at educational in-services, competencies, seminars and conferences.
