About The Position

The primary purpose of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is to administratively and clinically supervise all Nursing Services provided at the Walter B Jones Center through the two separate hospitals: (1) WBJ Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital and (2) WBJ Woodside Treatment Center. The CNO is delegated with significant managerial and programmatic responsibilities that are essential to the successful operation of the Walter B Jones Center's Nursing Services. The CNO has the complete responsibility for the direction, administration, and supervision of a specific system-wide program in Nursing Services such as education, infection control, departmental performance improvement/risk management and hiring staff. The CNO has complete responsibility for independently planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the quality of system-wide nursing care delivered through the organization. The CNO is also an active member of the Walter B Jones Center's Executive Leadership Team and plays an important role in the management of the Center/Hospital. The CNO represents Nursing Services on multiple Hospital, DSOHF and DHHS committees.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
  • Five years of nursing experience.
  • Three years of experience in a Nurse Supervisor capacity.
  • Ability to complete the physical requirements for CPR and CPI certifications.

  • Knowledge of standards and State and Federal laws, rules, and regulations regarding their specific program and agency/facility.
  • Ability to independently assess, analyze, plan, direct, implement, and evaluate delivery of Nursing Services.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective written and oral communication and work relationships with Physicians, healthcare personnel, patients, families, agencies and others.
  • Ability to prepare, write, and present reports to management and administration.
  • Ability to develop databases for collecting or reporting data on specific programs; thus enabling management to make informed decisions.
