As the senior level nursing executive for the business unit, the Chief Nurse Officer provides oversight of the provision of nursing care and is responsible for supervision of nursing and clinical policies and procedures that define and establish a uniform standard of quality patient care. The incumbent designs, facilitates and directs the delivery of care and services to customers including patients, staff, physicians, family members and community representatives. Accountable for the direction of high quality and cost effective patient care services to the community, working in collaboration with leadership members in fulfilling the institution’s mission. Additional responsibilities include planning and directing the clinical, financial, and operational activities of the clinical nursing departments within his/her hospital and areas of responsibility while ensuring that clinical processes are designed for both efficiency and effectiveness. The incumbent develops and interprets patient care standards, ensuring the provision of high quality, cost effective, and patient-centered services that support the Strategic Quality Plan and core elements of MultiCare’s mission and vision. The incumbent works closely with the President, Chief Operating Officer, Physician Executive, Finance Officer, and senior leaders in a team-oriented approach to planning and operational oversight. The incumbent establishes and maintains professional, positive working relationships with physicians, nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members, community groups, and other leaders throughout MHS. The incumbent is a member of the Nurse Executive Council and works collaboratively with peer Nurse Executives to identify and address System level nursing care functions. Hospital-based leaders may have a dual matrixed reporting structure.
