About The Position

This is Supervisory work in a first line, technical capacity directing the activities of skilled personnel engaged in the daily maintenance of a Public Drinking Water Supply. Incumbent is responsible for the oversight of teams engaged in the mechanical and electrical activities associated with the construction, upgrade, and maintenance of treatment process or conveyance system equipment and infrastructure. Works closely with the Chief Operator to continuously improve process efficiency. Systems include but are not limited to: pumps, chemical feed systems, treatment basins, pump stations, electrical switch-gear, motor controls, wells, and water transport systems. Works with minimal direction, utilizing independent judgment in a team environment. Work is subject to review by the divisional Public Works Manager.

Requirements

Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of water treatment systems and related maintenance.
In-depth knowledge of the mechanical and electrical aspects of process equipment and control systems.
Knowledge of basic electrical theory and motor controls.
Ability to lead effectively in a team environment and apply team-building skills.
Ability to implement effective training, coaching, reinforcement, and process improvement programs.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and schematics.
Ability to operate computers and commercial software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, report preparation, and project tracking systems.
Ability to effectively communicate ideas, principles, and technical concepts to team members, supervisors, and other personnel.
Knowledge of standard safety practices and occupational hazards associated with an industrial water treatment environment.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Five (5) years' experience in the technical and administrative aspects of Water Treatment Systems maintenance.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire one of the following certifications: State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection Drinking Water Operator Certification, State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection Water Distribution Operator Certification, Florida Water Pollution Control Operators Association Utilities Maintenance Mechanic Level I Certification.

Responsibilities

Organizes, schedules, and monitors maintenance activities as required.
Plans and implements system repairs and upgrades in a proactive, preventive fashion utilizing a team building approach.
Performs daily, random inspection of all systems to ascertain necessary corrective/ preventive measures.
Reports malfunctions and or potential hazards to supervision.
Administer and monitor team records such as work time, absences and safety practices.
Insures that policies and procedures are clearly communicated to team members and followed.
Reports violations to supervision as necessary.
Develops and maintains system and equipment maintenance records.
Maintains and monitors inventory base and usage.
Purchase materials and equipment and supervise employees’ purchases.
Prepares employee performance evaluations, corrective actions, and employee I team recognition in concert with the Public Works Manager II.
Attends continuing technical and supervisory training to stay abreast of the latest techniques as required.
Train employees in maintenance procedures and protocols.
Performs other duties when assigned.
