About The Position

This position performs specialized legal clerical duties for Family Court and/or Circuit Court, including courtroom assistance for the sitting judge. The incumbent works with limited supervision but requires complete accuracy. The major challenges for this position are dealing with irate people.

Requirements

  • Paralegal or criminal justice studies.
  • 2 years in similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SC laws.
  • Notary Public.
  • Annual certification for IRS Awareness Briefing.

Responsibilities

  • Writes orders as dictated by the judge in the courtroom, and prepares these orders for the judge’s signature.
  • Prepares, processes, and monitors bench warrants and other forms of follow-up from actions taken in previous court sessions.
  • Reviews and processes court orders accurately and completely, certifying, sealing, and distributing copies to appropriate parties, and entering all data into the system.
  • Assigns case numbers to initial cases, follows administrative rules of procedure to prepare file jackets and process paperwork.
  • Accounts for all motions, orders, filings, and other documents.
  • Ensures files are sent to the correct court for transferred cases.
  • Assists the public in filing initial pleadings by submitting certified copies to the proper authority for service.
  • Answers general questions for the public and attorneys and their staffs.
  • Coordinates and collaborates among attorneys, solicitors, court personnel, judges, and agencies.
  • Assists the department in handling mail, filing, faxing, scanning, and other administrative functions necessary for efficiency.
