About The Position

The Chief Integrity and Compliance Officer (CICO) is a senior executive leadership role responsible for defining, executing, and overseeing the company’s global compliance and integrity strategy. The CICO is the principal steward of ethical conduct, managing complex regulatory risks, and leveraging integrity as a competitive advantage and business enabler for Workday as it scales to a $20B+ business. This role reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer & Head of Corporate Affairs with management and oversight of mission critical areas or responsibility, including Responsible AI, Data Protection, and global anti-corruption efforts. The CICO manages a high impact global team of approximately 35 professionals responsible for designing, educating, and implementing Workday’s compliance, integrity, privacy, and responsible AI programs. The team includes lawyers, compliance professionals, data and social scientists, psychologists, program and project managers, and evangelists. Together they cultivate and maintain a culture of integrity and compliance across the Company and around the World.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in compliance, legal, internal audit, or risk management.
  • Extensive experience in a senior leadership role, such as a Deputy CCO, Head of Compliance for a major business unit, or a similar executive function.
  • Program Management: Proven track record of designing, implementing, and managing an effective, enterprise-wide compliance program for a large, complex, global organization.
  • Direct experience managing compliance with specific knowledge in: Anti-Corruption/Anti-Bribery, Global Trade Compliance and Sanctions, Data Privacy, and Responsible AI/Emerging Technology Governance

  • Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Regulatory landscapes and expectations from customers in areas that are not regulated are constantly changing. A CICO must be agile, able to quickly adapt to new regulations, emerging technologies, and evolving business models, and committed to continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Define and Execute the Global Compliance and Integrity Strategy: The CICO sets the Mission, Vision, and Charter for the entire Compliance & Integrity Team (CIT).
  • Strategic Leadership: Proactively drive legal and ethical business conduct, ensuring compliance programs empower Workday's success and serve as a business enabler.
  • Program Oversight: Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of robust risk management programs spanning: Integrity: Including anti-corruption, trade compliance, and human rights. Responsible AI (RAI). Privacy & Data Protection.
  • Transformation: Spearhead the CIT's organizational transformation, including unified strategic planning, budgeting, and driving the use of technology for efficiencies and scalability across all compliance functions.
  • Cultivate and Maintain a Culture of Trust and Ethical Conduct: This is the CICO's fundamental role: ensuring integrity is not just practiced but actively leveraged to build trust among all stakeholders.
  • Culture Development: Foster a company-wide culture of trust and integrity, enabling a culture of compliance that involves and is understood by every employee.
  • Training & Engagement: Manage and ensure constant improvement and efficacy of the Code of Conduct Training program and signature engagements such as Integrity Week and Rising.
  • Reputation Management: Constantly improve all aspects of the Ethics and Compliance Program and adjacent compliance activities to uphold Workday's reputation for trust and integrity, helping the company maintain its standing as an Ethisphere World's Most Ethical Company.
  • Govern High-Risk, Emerging Regulatory Domains: This role demands leadership in navigating complex and rapidly evolving areas, ensuring alignment with corporate principles and measured risk tolerance.
  • Responsible AI (RAI) Governance: Oversee the RAI Governance Framework to ensure Workday's AI systems align with human values, applicable laws, and the company's Responsible AI Principles.
  • Global Data Protection: Guide the organization in navigating complex global data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and translate them into practical business processes and safeguards.
  • Risk Mitigation: Address and mitigate the specific challenges and risks associated with the continued growth of: Public Sector business. Workday’s Partner ecosystem. Expansion into new markets.
  • Drive Operational Efficiencies in Compliance: The CICO is responsible for centralizing and streamlining compliance functions to maximize efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability.
  • Centralization & Scaling: Centralize and scale core compliance services through the newly established Compliance & Integrity Solutions team.
  • Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM): Consolidate and streamline TPRM efforts across all CIT pillars to effectively mitigate risk in the expanding partner ecosystem.
  • Policy Governance: Drive the Enterprise Policy Governance Program (EPG) to unify policy governance and management practices across Workday, collaborating closely with LCCA and other functions.
  • Serve as the Final Escalation Point for Novel and Transformational Issues: The CICO acts as the executive escalation point for complex, novel challenges that fall outside established policies or compliance programs, particularly those related to growth, new markets, and transformative technology.
  • Strategic Decision Support: Provide support and oversight for executive decision-making regarding potential reporting to regulators.
  • Transformational Challenges: Lead cross-functional initiatives to align and develop a strategic approach for supporting these "transformational challenges" that lack existing solutions.
  • RAI Support Strategy: Focus the core Responsible AI (RAI) team on strategic customer engagements by ensuring common questions are efficiently handled by GTM/GLS/SMEs (Tier 1 support).
