About The Position

The Chief Growth/Transformation Officer will be the strategic leader of NHPR's audience efforts across all platforms. This role involves leading the effort to build the digital revenue business, transforming NHPR into a resilient news organization serving audiences wherever they are. The position will manage the Audience Team, including digital publishing, social media, community engagement, and marketing specialists, to develop new products and implement tactics for reaching and engaging new and existing audiences. The role requires establishing tools and processes for understanding audience behavior and driving users through the funnel, supervising data and business analysts. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical capabilities, a deep understanding of the evolving media landscape, strong vendor relationships, excellence in project management, people skills, and a focus on meeting community news and information needs. The Chief Growth/Transformation Officer will partner with the Chief Content Officer on content initiatives and with Development leaders to optimize the conversion funnel. This role is crucial for advancing NHPR's strategic plan and shaping its future.

Requirements

  • At least eight years' experience directing a product, marketing, or audience development team in a media organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically about audience data and apply insights to advance organizational strategy.
  • Experience in driving organizational change.
  • Experience in assembling tech stacks that support subscription or membership-based business models.
  • Demonstrated success in leading marketing or audience campaigns (podcast, broadcast, digital/platform/app initiatives) that achieve positive audience and/or revenue results.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Superior skills at cross-team leadership and collaboration.
  • The highest level of professional integrity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent verbal and visualization skills, especially in the presentation of complicated data.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the executive lead for all audience acquisition, growth, and retention efforts across every NHPR platform.
  • Lead the advancement and execution of the digital revenue business strategy to ensure the organization's financial resilience and digital transformation.
  • Lead, direct and mentor the Audience Team, which includes digital publishing, social media, community engagement, and marketing specialists.
  • Establish the analytics, tools, and processes required to interpret audience behavior and systematically drive users through the audience/conversion funnel.
  • Lead the senior management team to advance, implement, and operationalize NHPR's overarching strategic plan.
  • Partner daily with the Chief Content Officer to design and execute content initiatives aimed at introducing NHPR to new audiences and building current listener loyalty.
  • Work closely with development (membership/fundraising) leaders to optimize the user conversion funnel and achieve organization-wide "North Star" revenue goals.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong external vendor relationships and supervise large-scale projects.
  • Act as a "generous, easy collaborator" across leadership to champion a community-focused, data-driven culture.
