About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will oversee the overall financial operations of the acute-care facility, including accounting, budgetary, audits, tax, and other financial planning activities. This role involves working with system management to develop and implement policies, procedures, and strategic goals. The CFO will provide financial leadership to hospital staff, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and contributing financial expertise to new service planning. This position also focuses on cost management, performance improvement, and representing the hospital in various meetings. Administrative responsibilities include departmental budgeting, time approvals, staff evaluations, and expense approvals. The CFO will also interact and present to the Board on a regular basis.

Requirements

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital staff, the Board, and community.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with Critical Access Hospitals and management of operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to cope with and manage change, maintain relationships with emotional maturity and self-motivation.
  • Experience to include strategic oversight with an emphasis on financial reporting analysis and cash flow management.
  • Revenue cycle knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Expense management.
  • Public relations abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information concerning personnel, financial or medical matters.
  • Previous CFO level or equivalent experience within a Critical Access Hospital environment required.
  • Previous experience within a non-profit environment.
  • Minimum 5 years or the equivalent of financial/accounting progressive managerial experience in a Critical Access Hospital environment.
  • Experience with Revenue Cycle and track record of success required.
  • Must be proficient in written and verbal communication skills.

  • Masters level education and CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee overall financial operations of the acute-care facility including accounting, budgetary, audits, tax, and other financial planning activities within the hospital organization; including management of respective department heads.
  • Work with system management to develop and implement policies and procedures, short- and long-range goals, objectives and plans.
  • Provide financial leadership to hospital managers, directors and officers that will enroll support, create ownership of goals, and encourage active participation in decisions that impact the hospital.
  • Ensure the hospital meets necessary financial regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute financial expertise in the planning of new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue.
  • Manage costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs in conjunction with the hospital's Chief Executive Officer and Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Analyze areas in planning, promoting, and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities.
  • Represent the hospital at meetings including medical staff, hospital board of director meetings as well as relevant community meetings as needed.
  • Participate in the hospital's monthly operation reviews as well as participate in corporate office meetings as deemed necessary.
  • Responsible for the administrative aspects of leading the department/team to include budgeting, time approvals, staff evaluations and expense approvals.
  • Interaction and presentations to the Board on a regular basis.
  • Other duties as required.
